Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Shawn Monroe spoke to me yesterday about the Home Warranty Plan -- I asked him specific questions about, 1) what will occur if I chose to "opt out" of this plan before coverage begins (in 30 days) - Shawn said I would get my entire money back. Not true, the contract states I would lose a $50 service charge for this and, 2) I asked Shawn what would occur if I chose to opt out of this warranty plan after 6 mos into the plan - Shawn stated that I would receive the prorated (unused) portion of the annual premium. Not true, the contract states once again that I would lose the $50 service fee AS WELL AS any service that I had performed on a covered appliance would need to be returned to your... Read More

I purchased a new home and the warranty came with the home. My heat is not working. I called in and I will give customer service an A+ the person was great. So, the tech came out early the day before my scheduled appointment that was awesome however, my concern is not having basic parts for heating and air. Why does everything have to be ordered. I think basic parts should be available. I hope this company is not like my last it was horrible. I still don’t have heat we are waiting on a part.......day 3.

So far so good. The company that came out to rod the sink sent a knowledgeable plumber. He did a very good job in a quick and professional manor.

I would given one star if I could, but I can only leave three. The technician couldn't do anything to solve my problems even though my problems lay within covered items in paying for in my monthly rates & still had to pay the the $75 fee for the technician to diagnose my problems. He was the best part of the con as he was very thorough & professional. I would never recommend this company to anyone & will be paying out my year of payments & not use any services unless I know they are very simple fixes (I could probably do myself) that I absolutely already know they will fix. I can't believe I chose the wrong company. Not, did I make a mistake with this Choice Home Warranty!

What can you say about a company that uses the word WARRANTY as part of their name, and then tells you in the contract that the company is NOT providing you with a WARRANTY. They are a service company and you will never receive more in benefits than you pay them. They are a well organized scam, as evidenced by the lawsuits that have been filed against them. Had them come out when HVAC acted up, technician said the coil was leaking. He reported to Choice that it was from normal wear and use, unit was well maintained. The report the technician submitted was a series of questions about the unit that were addressed with one word answers; good, normal, etc. Based on these one word answers,... Read More

Will never make a mistake of choosing CHW. Most unpleasant experience. Will point some reason for not doing the service after taking the service call fee. Not a completed service in 12+ out of 36 months of contract cost payment in advance. Happy to cancel if payment is refunded.

You send an HVAC TECH tocheck a stove /oven and after he “looked” at a couple of items implied that maybe the cook was not using the stove/oven properly.......after using the stove/oven over many years.
