Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

A friend referred me to you, but after my initial "request a quote" I got several calls a day from different numbers. I blocked as many number as I could , but the number of attempts is way overboard. I've asked reps numerous times to take me off the list. Please take me off the call list.

The technician assigned to look at my washing machine did not contact me prior to my request to let me know when he's enroute. That was inconvenient. Also after informing me the problem would take some time to see the decision with CHW next move. I called an hour later and Representative "Charles" went the extra mile to email the tech. of his sending his report to CHW. The tech. responded he would at the end of the day. . . The next day I got a notice from CHW's decision. I was so relieved that CHW Representative was able to give me the results. A horror story. Been with this company. For over 6 year but you have a problem after 3 pm on Friday they left me to die. I called them and they couldn’t have anyone to fix my Airconditioner until Wednesday! I was told I can get my own people and if covered I would be reimbursed They put me thru to that department. They asked me the parts I needed and if I had the numbers. I gave the phone to the tech I had called in.and gotten on my own. He was not one of their approved techs. He let them know the info he could but he had no idea about the price but told them his office would let me know on Monday with a diagnosis and price. Choice Warranty approved the work to be done, but it will take up to 2 weeks for the part to be in so the job can get completed. Not satisfied for the long wait, for my dryer to be fixed.

Our dryer problem was referred to FIRST CHOICE ELECTRIC in the Durham/Cary NC area. They responded very quickly and kept their appointment times. The technician was very qualified and personable. He had the necessary part and returned to complete the work the next day. I recommend this company highly.

Their sales tactics are very harsh, unprofessional ,and aggressive when the contract is expiring and for those attempting to get coverage with them after leaving for a while. I’ve had several customer service representatives hang up the phone on me and was downright nasty and insulting when I did not recommit as the plan was coming to an end. I had to eventually stop answering the calls. They do this then usually try to walk back their behaviors toward the end of the call if hey think you’re going to purchase service. The service otherwise was ok.

Twice I have called Choice for about two items that arent working. Once my Built in Micro Wave & then a Comode. Both times they had companies to call & setup a good time to come out. Gary, came with the understanding it was a leak, which it was, but I did not know from where, but it was the garbage disposal. He was nice enough to go and get a new one and install it, but he did not complete the job. He left the collar off ( the thing with the rubber flips), so I can't remember if Choice or his co. J and L told me to call him.
