Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

The customer service dept is very helpful. I am not so pleased with the company they sent to fix my dryer. They came on Monday with a promise to call later that day to schedule the part install, it is Saturday and I have yet to hear from them.

My mother and I purchased a new home for investment purposes. We had a full inspection done and purchased a home warranty with Choice. Shortly after we closed. we had tenants move in and they complained of extensive rust in their water. Obviously the hot water heater was going out. Choice refused to cover it . After disputing the situation with multiple representatives, they agreed to send a check for $250. .. a small portion of what the new water heater cost. I have multiple homes covered with them and as the contracts expire, I will be going to another company. I see no reason to ever buy a home warranty with them because no matter what goes wrong they will make sure your compensation... Read More

I currently have 17 homes covered by Choice. One had a dishwasher go out and created extensive damage. The water was turned off and the dishwasher disconnected while we had a restoration company dry out and repair the damage. Choice, at first, refused to cover the dishwasher because the tech could not test it as it was disconnected. This is after we had a leak expert go through the house and establish that there were no other leaks. After extensive dispute Choice agreed to give us $200 toward a new dishwasher. (The replacement dishwasher was over $600). This happened back in March and we are still waiting for our $200 check.

I purchased a Warranty Contract with this company. I recently purchased a home in December 2015, I had the AC & Heating Unit serviced in February 2016. In February 2017, I had the compressor replaced by an Heating & AC Company. In May 2017 my AC Unit was not working properly. I notified Choice Home Warranty, paid for the Service Call. The Technician stated that my unit had not been serviced., and that I needed a compressor. I then call Choice, the Service Advisor stated that they will not cover to replace the compressor, unless I could prove that I was maintaining my unit properly. I emailed them both invoices to show that my unit was service in accordance with the Manufacture's... Read More

Scott the Owner of Complete Garage Solutions, the service man sent out to repair my garage door di an excellent job came out pretty quick to assess the problem, he came out as soon as he got approval to replace the opener and to use the parts from the opener he replaced to fix my other garage opener and completed it the next afternoon, and assured me if the repair on the one he used the parts on has any problem to let him know and he would get it replaced through Choice home warranty. Thank you for your complete and thoughtful service Scott

I love how I actually got to speak to a human even during weekends and evenings, unlike other companies. They provide great workers to your home. They truly listen and cater to your needs!

I recently filed a claim for repair of a dryer. I scheduled immediately with the technician, who came out and quickly diagnosed the problem. He had to order parts and obtain approval from CHW for the repair. I called CHW and found that the authorization was completed very quickly. The only issue I had was the length of time it took for the tech to get the parts (about 10 business days...), but once they arrived the repair was done very quickly. I contacted CHW twice by phone after the claim was filed and the reps I spoke with were extremely helpful, courteous, and responsive.

I was told before I bought the policy that I could have who I wanted to do repairs but if I used my own choice they would only pay at their rate. Well their rate was less than half the bill and denied a second bill because their provider said he wouldn't touch my unit ( air handler) because of the bad repairs done by my provider. Wouldn't recommend this company to anyone.
