Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

The works (built-in microwave, garage door, dishwasher) were done in a rental home. The response time after the claims submitted were pretty good (as advertised). Other than for the microwave, I believe that technicians solved whatever problems the tenant had otherwise I would have heard from them.

The seerviced call was cancelled because I wa able to start the Hot Water Heater, I talked to the the service provider before the service call and we were not sure whether to report the cancellation with you or not, but he was fine with the cancellation.

Recently my washing machine needed repair. I called Choice Home Warranty and someone came out within 2 days. The repair was going to be over $800 to fix so they offered me some money (less than the repair amount) instead, to put towards a new machine The process was pretty easy and they say I will get a check within 30 days. Overall, based on this experience I would recommend them. Just wishing I would get money sooner since I have to pay for new machine which is more than they are giving me.

Shortly after hurricane Florence left my area, my air conditioning stopped working. I called Choice, thinking that it would be weeks before anyone responded to me since everyone is dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane. I was pleasantly surprised that a service provider showed up the next day and fixed the problem. I was so appreciative considering we are experiencing 90 degree heat! The service provider was pleasant, courteous and extremely helpful.

I filed a claim because my heating exchange is cracked. The plumber reported this to them to them. They denied my claim saying a rusted cracked heating exchange is covered. It was never said that it was rusted. That is CHW said not the plumber. I am so disappointed!! I am gathering they don't want to pay for anything that is a big bill.

Great experience! Our A/C went out when it was 107-degrees out (Phoenix) and within 7-hours on a Sunday, Choice Home Warranty responded with a Repairman on-site and had the problem fixed for the cost of our contract service call fee (deductible). I read an on-line post from a friend that had the same problem with another warranty company and they are still without A/C after 5-days. We are SO happy that we selected Choice Home Warranty!!

Our service call was placed after normal business hours, approx. 9PM Eastern. The next morning at 8:10AM, I believe, we received an email from CHW stating that you were working diligently to set-up a service call, but were having difficulty finding someone to service our appliance. I believe that was 10 minutes after the beginning of the business day. In the email, we were offered an opportunity to find a service person of our choosing, but would have been obligated to pay out of pocket, then request reimbursement from CHW, which of course would have been time consuming, and would leave us wondering how much was to be reimbursed. I declined that offer, because we are paying CHW a fee... Read More
