Absolutely terrible. And giving me the run around for months. quick to take my monthly payment but when it comes time to claims they are doing everything possible to waste my time and try to find ways to not pay out the claim. End of the day they will need to pay the claim but it's very frustrating that they're wasting so much of my time trying to fight about paying a claim when I pay them every month for insurance so why do I have to fight with them when the time comes for them to honor their end of the agreement. they clearly dont care About my pet if they're not reimbursing the vet bills making it harder for me to afford to take her back to the vet and when I explain this to them they... In your review of Spot Pet Insurance, you mention pre-existing conditions. We have had two claims disallowed due to definitions by Spot which have no clinical basis. The first occurred following dental procedures on our Sheltie. Her mouth is too small for all teeth and some were extracted. Spot disallowed the claim because, during a previous exam the vet noted in the medical record that the dog had a grade one dental condition - meaning there was tartar on the teeth. Spot said grade 1 indicated "severe dental disease" and disallowed the claim. Grade one is on a scale of 1-4. Spot has failed to provide their scoring algorithms. The second denial was again based on Spot's... Read More
Thanks for the comments. I was about to enroll, but will obviously need to do more research.
I didn't think one company could make so many mistakes. When I sent in a claim for my dog, they sent me messages numerous times that they did not have it. When I contacted the vet's office, they had sent it to Spot twice. When I took my dogs in for their Wellness Exam (after the insurance had been effective for three months), they did not pay for the exam, even though I had it under my coverage and the specifics were listed as covered. First, they told me it wasn't covered, then they told me I took them in before I had coverage. I went back to each dog's claims and saw that they had listed each dog had "spent" $50 on "wellness," which was obviously not true. I cannot imagine how this... Read More
They're very quick to get you to enroll but leave out all kinds of important information: The latest.... I wanted to lower my percentage of reimbursement so my premium would go down... I tried doing it online; however was not able to do it so I had to call them. I was told by the rep that the reason I was unable to lower it myself is because I can only change it at renewal time. I WAS NEVER TOLD THIS...I'm paying a huge amount as I have 2 dogs, once who is aging... I strongly recommend you train your sales agents to explain everything... the good, the bad and the ugly. I hadn't thought of asking if they allow a change in this when I signed up... At this point in time, I'm considering... Read More
Website is not user friendly- finally after days I get an email telling me they received my claims Good news I thought since I met my deductible Not so fast- now they’re telling me they requested medical records- mind you - both claims are not complicated I view this as a delaying tactic Signed up w them because of great reviews but they’re really too new to get any negative reviews Very pleasant customer service excellent all I kept getting were excuses- as a client who’s paying a lot of money to insure two dogs I don’t want excuses - I want a solution They’re no better than anyone else I’m giving them 2 weeks to reimburse me - if it takes longer I’ll be opening a claim with... Hi I’m getting a Boxer puppy tomorrow…Does your plan cover wellness visits as well?
We've had spot insurance for over a year of the 6 claims we filed they only covered 2 of them. My dog fell ill, and we submitted the claim and they denied it with no explanation. You try and call them and it's an hour long hold time, or you can email with 24 hours in-between responses. Told them I was upset with the turn out asked for explanation or to please cancel the coverage, they just emailed me back canceled coverage as of 12/1. They obviously don't really care about pets or the customers at all. much better options out there. don't be fooled because they pay to be #1
Posted on other site for review but our posting got removed since it's a one star on Spot Insurance endorse"Dog Whisperer" by Cesar Millan that we watch all the time for Dog training.
Share your experiences to help others make better decisions Update on Labrador 1 Yr and 2 months Old and Coviniently paying a year of insurance, Just processed a claim and completed, with no explanation whatsoever. Called Spot Pet Insurance and they said our dog was diagnosed with gastroenteritis according to their Spot Staff, which is a desease and not an accident. The thing is our dog ingested something that caused stomach upset and vomitting blood but guess what they will not cover it because they keep saying its gastroenteritis. Ingesting foreign object is included for the accident insurance that they offer but if your dog got gastroenteritis as a result of ingesting foreign object... Read More

Ingesting foreign object is included for the accident insurance that they offer but if your dog got gastroenteritis as a result of ingesting foreign object then it's not covered! Funny how they can get away with it and play you with the policies they have. Oh well, time to find another insurance...
Story of my Spicy Cat, I have had Spot Pet Insurance for my 4 cats for over 6 months. Recently, my 12 year old male cat had a Urinary Tract Blockage which turned into an emergency and ended us up at the Hospital. It was suggested that he have an operation so that he would not become blocked with stones again. At a cost of over $5,000 you can imagine I was hesitant, but considering this surgery would prevent this happening in the future and prevent a possible premature death sentence by not making it to the hospital in time the next time, I agreed to the surgery. I was hoping this would be covered by Spot pet insurance and so Medvet in Worthington OH helped me get an extension on my Care... Read More
6/11/21 This rating is currently based on my limited experience with SPOT. I have not yet filed a claim. I am basing this review off off the registration and payment process as well as excellent customer service (which includes real people answering the phones). I am getting ready to go through the claims process and will change this review accordingly if necessary. I pledge to be fair with my expectations and expect that I will be treated fairly according to the terms of the contract (which I read forward and backward before enrolling) but can be very open ended when it comes to diagnosing pets with pre-existing conditions or preventative testing v/s necessary testing as you can see by... I wish I could say SPOT will have your back, but I can’t… We purchased the policy when my puppy was 3 months old. He got into trouble and swallowed rocks twice: once before and once during the insurance waiting period. The first time, he went to the ER for an endoscopy to remove them from his stomach. The second time the Dr made him puke it out. He had diarrhea for a couple weeks after due to all these procedures, but it went away after some time. It was all paid out of pocket ($4K) because the policy wasn’t active at this time. Too bad timing didn’t work out but that was the rules we agreed to, no hard feelings there. After the waiting period was over, our dog started causing... Read More
