My dog has been on the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance for ten years. I have made monthly payments by automatic deduction from my bank account. Recently, he was diagnosed with discoid lupus and the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance refuses to pay claims for treatments which could be life long. When asked why, they said I was sent by mail six moths ago a notice to upgrade my plan. Because I have automatic payments, I rarely opened their mail so I was unaware that I had to upgrade. I have spoken with other pet health insurance providers who stated that this would never had happened with them. I encourage people to seek other plans and avoid ASPCA.
On the anniversary of your policy, any illnesses you pet had during the past year becomes a pre-existing condition. Therefore, they no longer cover an illness they have been covering. Example: your pet is injured two weeks before the policy anniversary date and requires 6 weeks of care. ASPCA Pet Insurance will only cover the claims for the first two weeks. On the anniversary date, the remaining 4 weeks of care are considered pre-existing. I call this a rip-off. When asked about pre-existing conditions, ASPCA did not state this policy. I should not have trusted the rep and I should have read the fine print. There are other Pet Insurance companies that would continue payment of claims... Read More
So far all claims have not been covered. Waiting on appeals, but it doesn't look good. They find reasons to not cover ANYTHING. Also, very important to note: NO AFFILIATION WITH ASPCA AT ALL. They just pay for the right to use the name. When I chose this insurance, it was with the thought of "oh, ASPCA cares a lot about pets, I bet they will be great!". Wrong! They're just another insurance company whose primary mode of business is to take money and not give it back. An understandable business model - no other would work - but a really deceptive name. Even this very website has the wrong description. Yes, ASPCA had something to do with the formation of this insurance company, but only... Read More
ASPCA Pet Insurance review Worst insurance company I've ever dealt with! Signed up with a low-deductible plan because I saw an ASPCA flyer with a 30-day free trial promo that said my pet cat's claims would be covered as long as I signed her up within 3 days of a vet visit. Turns out, ASPCA Pet Insurance has deliberately misleading false advertising language that they use but do not intend to honor, just so they can get you to sign up and take your money. Every single claim I submitted was rejected with the convenient "pre-existing condition" excuse with no other explanation even though my cat didn't have a pre-existing condition. Terrible/reluctant customer service and appeals process as... Read More
I've been paying this policy for years. My dog is 11 and has always been healthy. I keep the policy in case of a catastrophic illness or injury. Now she has had a minor acute illness and I am trying to submit a claim. The app doesn't recognize my account number and when I call the main or claims phone numbers they are closed "due to inclimate weather." This is June; the weather channel says it's a beautiful, hot day in Akron, Ohio.
I have been faithfully trying to keep my dog alive and happy since his terminal adrenal gland cancer diagnosis last fall. The vet visits and chemo prescriptions are very expensive and the ASPCA $3,000 per incident coverage limit, while helpful, only covers a portion of the costs. We have been paying into our policy for nearly 9 years, ever since we rescued our pup. Now I have just been told that his coverage will go DOWN for his "ongoing condition" once the year re-sets on September 1. Yeah, let that sink in a second. It's not a pre-existing condition, it's an "ongoing condition" for which we are only entitled $1,000 in reimbursement going forward. What sense does this make? A... Read More
I was a customer but when I was told my claim (which was for a wellness visit) would take 4-6 weeks to receive payment...I cancelled! I was told it was due to high volume...which was not my problem! Then I got $8.68 which is not the difference 66-54 does not equal $8.68. So I would not recommend them. They were not honest with me! I would not give them one star if I could keep from it!
Worst pet insurance ever every claim you make they don't cover
I filed a claim for surgery performed on our dog Mambo on 11/2/2018. The surgery was to remove stones in his bladder. The claim was denied as pre-existing. My policy states: "A condition will no longer be considered pre-existing if your pet's condition has been cured and free from treatment and symptoms for a period of 180days". Our dog has no other medical history for the last 12 months, which his medical records show. Our vet has provided the following letter to the insurance company: "To Whom it May Concern - XXXXXX, 12y MN havanese, has been under our care here at XXXXX Veterinary Clinic since September 2017. He presented for inappropriate urination signs, and during workup it was... Read More
I have had this insurance for many years for my dog. It started off great. Claims were paid within 2 weeks, many times in under a week. Now, I can't seem to get them to pay a claim. The last claim I have is now going on a month long with it still "processing". Last week I called and they said they were waiting on information from my vet. Well I called my vet that day and they sent it over with me on the phone. Now, Three business days later, it is still in processing. How long after you the information you were waiting on does it take to finalize the claim? I called again today and I got told they were dealing with a lot of claims and it is taking longer and that it could take up to 30... Read More
This is one of the WORST insurance ulcers to have your animal health and welfare represented coverage. My Rottweiler had allergies from birth....In writing my plan I stated he had allergies. Every health issue he had...They denied coverage and stated it was related to a pre-existing condition....He scathed himself above his eye and it got infected and his eye swelled up like a marble....DENIED due to pre-existing condition....DX: Acute Infection above eye....How can ACUTE be pre-existing....Wouldn't that be Chronic Infection???.....Next Denied Claim- Left Ear Infection....DX: Acute Ear Infection of the Left Ear.....DENIED due to pre-existing condition....Geneo never had an ear infection in... BUYER BEWARE!! ASPCA Pet Insurance does not offer "continuing care" for many pets. When my cat was diagnosed with cancer after being with them for years, they stopped covering any related care after a year. ASPCA Pet Insurance abandons you and your pets when you need them most just to line their pockets.
Owners should be advised that ASPCA only covers insurance for pets up to the age of 12. I was not told this when I took insurance out on my pet when he was 3 months old. I am very disappointed in the Company for not informing me of this fact, as not insurance for a 12 year old dog is much higher with other insurance companies. Also, I was disappointed in the fact that they paid very little for claims submitted to them.
I submitted my first claim a month ago. I call and keep getting told there is a backlog and will take 4-6 weeks. If I did not need insurance to be reimbursed for a claim, why would I faithfully pay my girls premiums. I would just pay her bill. This is very unprofessional. Now that I have gone to Yelp, I see I am one in a crowd of dissatisfied customers. I will be looking for a more professional company I can rely on. I will also be discontinuing my donations to the ASPCA, as will be my roommate. I now wonder where people's donations go if this small part of the organization cannot be run adequately.
Their policy is that they pay for diagnose and treatment competed in the same coverage year. I've had coverage on my 2 RRs for 6 years. This past year they tried to deny coverage on cancer treatment because the diagnosis was made before my coverage anniversary date and the treatment was completed after the anniversary date.
Let me you about my experience as a loyal ASPCA Pet Health Insurance policy for 11 YEARS. I was just bullied and threatened by an agent/underwriter. I called asking about coverage benefits for my dog "who is 11, pushing 12, and not getting around as well as normal.” I was told that my dog would have a preexisting condition and therefore ineligible for alternative care. I asked what preexisting condition. The AGENT - NOT the VET - then diagnosed my dog as "arthritic." I countered and said that the dog has NEVER EVEN been seen for ARTHRITIS. The agent/underwriter then made a threatening statement and said that I had admitted my dog wasn't moving around as fast as normal and that the... Read More
My dog is ten years old and has a diagnosis of cancer of the liver as of July of this past year. My policy expires 2/1/19, thusly the ASPCA Pet Insurance has decided that effective 2/1/19 they consider the cancer a pre-existing condition and will no longer cover anything related. They had the audacity to say if she is cured they will cover it in 180 days. Oh my goodness, is that ever ridiculous! I would and have told all my dog park friends to stay clear of this organization and find a different pet insurance plan. PS I cancelled it - as what good is having a insurance plan if nothing, at this point, will be covered.
Do NOT waste your money with this insurance company! I paid for years for my two dogs, and when one of them got sick they only paid a minuscule amount. The next calendar year they stopped paying altogether, as they then considered it a "preexisting" condition. Biggest rip-off ever!
Having a pet currently insured with ASPCA, the reviews claiming ASPCA considered prior year conditions as pre-existing and therefore not covered, shook me up. I called ASPCA and was told that ASPCA at one time did in fact consider prior year conditions as pre-existing, but has since changed their policies so that this is no longer the case. I take it that whether or not prior year conditions are considered pre-existing depends on when your policy was issued. Reading my policy, I cannot see how ASPCA could withstand a legal challenge of such a policy. I have requested and am waiting for something in writing from ASPCA to clarify this issue.
This insurance is a scam, just like most insurance. They claim fast processing? BS. If you submit all documentation with vets notes, you are lucky to get reimbursed in a month, They advertise "reimbursement in minutes with our app", a total fabrication. Then they claimed a preexisting condition wen no vet at any point diagnosed the problem. They refused to pay a claim because of that, and I had to appeal (another 30 day wait) to see if I'll get my benefits. Like all insurance companies they are total phonies. They give you nice talk, polite conversation, pretty pics of dogs and cats, and then tell you to go pound sand. In a year when you renew anything your dog was treated for becomes... Read More
I was a customer, but dropped them after years of paying premiums and was denied a claim that they said was allergy related and pre existing condition from when she was a pup.
This is totally a rip-off -- put your premiums in a savings account. Insurance is supposed to collect premiums from many people, and then help pay large expenses for the few people that need them. ASPCA insurance does everything it can to pay virtually nothing. We have been paying for level-3 insurance (i.e. one of their better plans) for 9 years, costing thousands of dollars. This insurance has been useless for both the many "smaller" medical bills ( $200-$500) that we've had over the years, AND the large bill we just had. I was OK overlooking the "small" ones, assuming they would actually pay up when a big expense came. The do not. Between the deductibles, fee limits, and... Read More
Never would I recommend anyone to take this insurance. My vet charges the lowest prices in my area and they continuously came back saying that the allowed amount was always "just a tad" lower than what my vet charged. It's nonsense. My dog was diagnosed with lymphoma 1 week before out yearly policy was up. When we renewed they gladly took my money but then told me they could not pay out any more claims for my dog until she was well for 6months. Dogs who are diagnosed with lymphoma will never "be well" again. On top of the usual insurance company issues, their phone reps are rude and tight lipped.
Most heartless and greedy pet insurance in existence.
My dog had a stomach virus causing him to vomit and poop constantly to the point he was so dehydrated he could barely move. He had a fever of 103 and had to be put on special food and medication. They linked this to puppy poops from puppy food he had several months prior. These people will do everything in their power not to help you DO NOT pick them for insurance they will fuck you when you need them most.
I have 3 Shelties and purchased a level 2 pet insurance through ASPCA when my girls were all 2 months old. They are now all close to 13+. I have rarely used my policy as they have been well. Until summer of 2014 when one of my girls got kidney disease. Also high blood pressure. This required vet visits, IV therapy, blood work and constant blood pressure monitoring. The initial visit required in hospital stay 2 days. I submitted this claim with her diagnosis. ASPCA processed the claim. I had many more vet visits and follow up. I ran into a problem when 2 issues arose. 1. If you don't submit your claim within a certain time they will not process and pay. 2. After the calendar year and your... Read More
