Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

There is nothing like having coverage when you need it. I enrolled in the CHW program last April and required minimal repairs. At the start of this year, I needed a furnace and dryer repaired. CHW sent service technicians right away. While CHW does not cover 100% of the replacement costs( who would expect it... new equipment has its own warranty), the supplemental allowed me sufficient funds to make the replacement affordable. I am grateful for CHW.

Employees don't care where you have a problem or not. I stayed on the phone for over twenty minutes just to get thru to talk to someone this is unacceptable to me and I'm retired why can't you understand what it would be like if a tech had to stay on the phone 20-30 minutes to talk to someone to get a service call, parts and labor approved. For the customer know tech in his right mind would do that if he has a lot of calls to make. Change your call answering policy or get a new phone line just for techs. Dr. Wayne Stevens

In general is OK, but some initial data (Apart. #. phone # etc.) should be corrected, but a customer can not perform any corrctions by himself.

We have done work for Choice Home Warranty (CHW) for 2+ years, followed all protocols, and abided by their contract as well. However, they do NOT follow their contract. When we began doing work for CHW it was added to our account that we would be paid for each service call we went to whether the job was approved or denied. For us that is $100 minus the customer's deductible ($0/45/65). They decline most claims that they send us out on (drains are declined if you must get on roof to clean them out/ water tanks are denied as rust causes them to leak and they do not cover rust/ garbage disposals are denied due to rust causing leaks as they do not cover rust). Choice gives each contractor... Read More

Dwayne with Douglass Mechanical got here on time, assessed our trouble which was a blown fuse on our heater. He replaced the fuse and went on his way. Two hours later, we ended up having the same problem. I called him and he came by mid-afternoon the same day. Realized the computer board in the thermostat was bad, causing the heater fuse to blow. Replaced the thermostat and fuse again. Two days later, all is still working well.

Choice service was fine BUT we have had very poor service from repair company. They canceled first appt. Their messages were always full so couldn't reach them. They were several hours late for second appt and that was after having to call then again. " They forgot". Part had to be approved by Choice. It's been approved by haven't heard from repair Co. And it's been two days. Their voice mail box is full again. Without heat for over a week.
