Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

I called in to ask questions, and what I was told orally over the phone did not match the policy I was sent. I also was promised they would waive the 30 day waiting period, but received nothing confirming this. I am hoping they will refund my money due to these misrepresentations, however I will involve an attorney if necessary. I am extremely disappointed in all the exclusions which basically result in no coverage and throwing my money away!

Frankly, I was turned off by the aggressiveness of the representative in upselling me for a longer term commitment. I asked at least 5 times to let me get off the phone and he would not let it go. I nearly canceled the warranty I just purchased and may do that after a year. This has been a very disappointing start in my relationship with Choice.

The Customer service was great and easy to understand. Although at first he did seem a little annoyed, he got nice when he realized I was actually going to purchase a warranty. But the experience was was very good, and it could have been me, I was in a rush to get it done. Best thing I didn't ever have to repeat myself, he was listening all the time. Thank you. I will monitor service closely looking Forward to an annual review.

I received a call from Laura in regards to a quote and she told me about the one year plan and proceeded by asking me for my credit card information. Once she had obtained it she then decided to tell me about a five year plan and pointed out the benefits of the longer term. I was interested in the longer term plan and asked her to let me think about it and call me back the next day. She continued on about other plans and I repeatedly asked her to let me think about it. At some point are call got disconnected and the next thing I see is a welcome email. She went ahead and proceeded to process the one year.
