Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I researched Home Warranty companies and made a couple calls and decided to go with Choice Home Warranty (Mistake). Called to sign up and was told that everything would be cover. I was not told that only this part would be cover but not that. "All would be covered" I called with an air conditioning problem. The Technician came out and said it needs to be replace. The next day Choice Home Warranty called and said we won't cover the repair or replacement of that part. The Salesman was all about making the sale, not service. Be careful when signing up with these guys. I'm not happy!!!

They have always sent someone out promptly and I have been pleased with who they have sent. Most recently though I have been waiting for a month to get my check to cover the replacement cost of my dishwasher. I had a Maytag dishwasher and was only given $200 to replace my dishwasher which I felt was not comprable to the model that I had previously owned. When you take away the $60 that I had to pay to have a service person come out and tell me my dishwasher needed to be replaced I technically only have $140 to get a new dishwasher.

With all due respect to the other reviews, I have to conclude Choice Home Warranty is the worst of the worst. My well maintained heater went out in November. The service repair technician diagnosed the problem as a burned out board, with some wiring that was affected. Choice told me they would only pay for the wiring ($181.00) as this was the primary cause of the failure, and they only pay for primary failures. Knowing a little about electronics, I informed them wiring cannot fail on it's own, it takes a power surge from a faulty electric component or a loose connector to burn out wiring. I threatened to cancel my policy and they decided to pay for the board ($445.00), but I had to pay for... Read More

Submitting the claim was super easy online. Within hours an email was sent with the technician's contact information. I made the call to the tech and they were out replacing my pool pump the same day! I highly recommend Choice Home Warranty.

My heating system's inducer motor was dying - was making terrible noise and I had intermittent heat. Called Choice, their authorized service providers showed up fairly quickly, next day and fixed the issue as soon as the part was available. Only reason I did not give the 5 star here is that there was a period of uncertainty between initiating the claim and hearing back from service scheduler - those 2-3 hours I had no clue whether they will be able to show up at all that day or not. However, they showed up, and I received calls after the ticket was sourced to a provider as heads up. I guess there is no way around this workflow because the service really depends on availability of local... Read More
