Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

They may rank this company as number four; but from my personal experience with them. I don't put them in the top ten at all. I paid upfront for my coverage and once my hot water heater required replacement I was told NO we only cover the outside parts of the hot water heater not the inside rotting out from normal use.

I recently purchased 6 policies but as a landlord I often forget that I have them. When a tenant calls me, I respond and that's what Iv'e continued to do. A tenant told me that their dishwasher was broken, so I ordered a new one and had it delivered. A few weeks later, I called Choice to explain my dilimma, taking full ownership for not taking advantage of the policy. I could have had the unit repaired. The representative said she would send a check for the amount of the dishwasher. I did not expect that! I will remember to use them from now on.

Someone PLEASE tell me that when your Water Heater went down this awful insurance paid to replace it. If so, you would be lying. I have had Choice for a number of years & have never had to use them for anything. Our Water went out & after having a service person come out & told me that Choice would pay NOTHING to fix or replace it. What a surprise it was to hear that. Service guy said that Choice fixed or replaced everything except Water Heaters. We paid $1,000 for a new one but NOT with their people. There people told us they would be out the next day & put in a new one for a little over $900. Next day, no one showed up & when I called, they didn't even know they were to do it. I... Read More

The company is very responsive when contacted for a claim. Usually within 12 hours or less a technician is assigned and the techs are usually proactive by calling right away to schedule an appointment. Since my homes are managed by a leasing company, it would be a welcomed improvement if I could add them to the contract so that they get the e-mail and calls and I only get the information when the policy needs renewed or there is an issue.

I have a Frigidaire front load washer that has been cheaply repaired by this company several times it breaks down every 4 to six months. The repair men that they sent were contractors not appliance repair men. I guess they don't want to pay any real repair men in St. Louis Mo. Had American Shield before they are excellent. Used this company for plumbing twice. got contractors again. Had to order cartridge for my kitchen sink and fix myself. This company is a waste of your money. Beware!!!

My first claim with Choice was for an A/C filter dryer unit and leaked freon. This was a part that they did not cover. I was obviously quite disappointed initially. The customer service rep was very understanding and authorized $250 towards my repair. I could not have asked them to be more fair. Their claim process is very fast. My repair was finiished within 24 hours from the time I started it. My initial experience went from potential disappointment to an excellent rating.

CHW was on top of my request for help. I contacted CHW and made my claim and about 15-20 minutes later the plumbing company contacted me and less than 30 minutes after that the plumber was here fixing the issue. Boy was I a happy camper. There is nothing worse than plumbing stoppage issues! Thank you CHW and BrianBurkHalter Plumbing!!!👍

I had a broken washer. Choice sent out Atwood appliance. They did a unbelievably excellent job. They fixed something we didn't know was broken for years, we just thought it was a bad washer. Now it works like never before. I love the washer now that it is fixed.
