Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I have had very good experience with my claims with Choice Home Warranty. They are quick to address the claims and technicians that came to the house were great to work with.

If you want to give your money to a company to buy "piece of mind" this company is just the one...UNTIL you try to get them to stand behind their warranty. Believe it or not, rust and corrosion are not normal wear and tear on an a/c unit by their twisted logic. The HVAC technician who came to look at my unit told me that this was a typical response from CHW and that he had 3 similar situations last week where CHW responded the same way. He said that one lady had been paying for the warranty for 8 years and they offered her nothing just like me. Save your money and you will also save yourself a lot of grief.

It took me just a single call to express my concern and within 10 minutes I was assigned a technician and a prompt service call was scheduled. I am extremely satisfied with CHW and hope to continue with them further too. I surely would recommend CHW to all my friends looking for a home warranty.

Well what can I say. I just thought this was going to be another warranty that I would have to go through loops just to get my item fixed. I was very surprised with the timely manner the customer service people called to make sure I was taken care of. And the person that came out to fix my water heater was beyond professional, after the technician was done he cleaned up his area and done he put everything back in order and cleaned up after himself very impressed. I recommend this warranty to anybody and the price was right.

I have tried to use my coverage twice in two years. First time was a leak under the sink; Choice Home Warranty did not cover the issue. Not only did I have to pay the $60 fee, but then the entire cost of the repair. Now, my AC has been out for over two weeks and the AC company they sent out is charging me to refill the unit with Freon every 3 days, but is unable to fix the problem because choice home warranty does not cover the leak detection test required to find the leak. So, it's a warranty company that does not actually cover the AC, plumbing.... oh, I forgot. There was a third claim; I called on my refrigerator because the ice maker would not switch to crushed ice. They don't... Read More

called on friday, june 16, 2017, late afternoon re my a/c. i felt something wasn't right with it. the person i spoke to said someone would call and/or email me and then i should call that company and set up an appt. this morning, saturday, june 17, 2017, got a call from the a/c company. made an appointment for a serviceman to come out this morning between 10 and 1. around 11:15 a.m., the serviceman arrived. he checked out a vent in the bathroom with some piece of equipment he had. he checked the filter, which i had changed about a week ago. he went up on the roof (on top of the garage) to our a/c and found we needed freon. he put in 3 lbs of freon. he said it should all be ok... Beware! I was told by two professionals that our a/c was useless and needed replacing. CHW reported that it was not "normal wear and tear." It was an oceanfront, 12-year-old unit. CHW was responsive to my service call and did connect me promptly with a service technician but CHW disagreed with the technician's recommendation of replacement. Further, I was put on hold for over an hour before I was connected to someone who could cancel my THREE policies we had with CHW. Run far away from them.
