Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Rust excluded??? Really???? How can a home warranty exclude rust from coverage on systems whose inherent function and purpose involves the transfer of water or humidity? Water heater rusts out - not covered. Central air evaporator coil rusts through, leaking all the freon out - not covered. Technician merely mentions the word rust as a possible cause for the toilet not flushing properly - not covered. On top of all this, the service companies sent out to do the requested repairs hate chw because they're always caught in the middle, between the customer and chw, when the service claims are denied. Worst home warranty on the market!!!

We had to reopen a claim because our air stopped working again after the first service call. At first I had a hard time getting in touch with Choice (I think they were having a phone system issue), but was able to handle the situation online. Technician came back out the next day, at no charge, and we have air again!

They refused to cover our air conditioner outage and replacement. No excuse given - just refused it.

Notice, it seems like several great reviews (5 star) tend to quickly follow any negative reviews. Consider also that it takes only a email account to sign-up and review. Not even a CAPCHA to prevent bots from raking havoc. What does this rating service do to assure this system is honest ?

I have a CHW warranty on my home and my rental property. CHW has always acted in a very professional manner in handling my claims and my contract renewals. I have experience with companies in the same industry and can tell you the CHW is the very best I have seen! I recommend them highly!

Choice warranty dispatched a plumber to repair my garbage disposal and the plumber came out the same day and replaced it. The service was great and the customer service was also. I would recommend Choice Warranty to any Home Owner.

We called choice warranty because of problems with our Central air conditioning. With in a hour we received a call from the service tech and set up a time for him to come out. The problem was taken care of. Thanks to choice warranty for their prompt service. Having this plan saved us a lot of money.

Within seconds of perusing their website, Alberto calls (I had to give a name and number to do anything on the website) He was a pain to deal with from the start and would not accept that I was doing my own research. I told him I would call him back even took down his number (ext #8410) but he continued to press demanding answers to his questions and when I'd call him back. Wow what a jerk. I wouldn't buy anything from a company like Choice Home warranty that hires such jackasses in an effort to high pressure sell a policy. I'm making a choice, I choose NOT to do business with Choice Home Warranty.
