Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.5 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

Was a supporter of this company - until l my last claim Had a contractor sent out to fix a leak in the wall. Shut off water to parts of the house. Then left. They do offer a lot for what you pay. However, their customer service is inconsistent, you have to really fight to get things covered and the contractor's are hit or miss. Service requests can be completed quickly or take months (on a larger item) to fix.

Been a client for several years and the one constant has always been horrible service. Will be changing companies now that more are available in my area. They do not screen their contracting firms.

Hard to reach No reliable technicians assigned. Services take long to complete - several weeks to months Poor follow up Poor customer service Online account very limited and very incomplete on detail of service ordered and or rendered and Will not replace appliances (parts to replace deemed obsolete) they have covered for yrs and or offer to only provide about 1-5% of total cost of appliance replacement

First American Home Warranty has been the worst experience we have ever had with a home warranty company. They have dishonest in order to deny two claims that are covered in our contract. They will use pre-existing as an excuse to not cover an item. When in fact you have proof that it was not pre-existing. Our refrigerator has been broken for two months now and they are not even close to taking care of it. The last technician recommended replacing it, so they deleted him from the history and are spending months trying to find a re-built board (which is a safety hazard), but since it's an option they will not replace. So frustrating and just all around wrong. I have spent two months... Read More

This company take to long to repair or fix your claims and you do not get no help when you try to contact them to find whats taking so long, my kitchen range has been broke almost (2) months and they do not keep you updated or call you back when you try to call or they just hang up on you.

Do not buy a home warranty from first American! My family, to include an eight week old infant, has been without heat for almost two weeks with no chance to be fixed in the foreseeable future. They sent a contractor out that was a complete scam artist who claims he had my new hearing unit stolen and now that my claim has been escalated to an emergency I can get no one to help us. Whenever we call every department says they can't help us and pass us off to another department where no one ever answers the phone. Oh and if you do by some reason go with this company do not ever accept a call back. Because you will not ever get one.

First American Home Buyers Protection Corporation is a sham. Their contractor list apparently only includes those who are unable to survive in business through providing quality, customer oriented service which invites loyalty from their customer base. The $75.00 service fee for a plumber to unstop a drain is actually higher than the prevailing rate with a senior or military discount, and the service is terrible. Calls to complain result in long waits for "the next available agent." A call to ask for a repeat service (because the stoppage was actually not properly cleared) resulted in a denial because the stoppage was in a drain that is outside the building foundation. I would not... Read More

I have had a First American Home Warranty for 5 years and have noticed that response times seem to be getting longer. Be prepared to go without heat or water for 4-to 5 days or even longer.
