Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Problem: I filed a claim to get my rental house water heater fixed on Tuesday 4/10/2018. CHW assigned J & L Plumbing to come fix the water heater on Thursday 4/12/2018 and the technician found a switch had been turned off and he checked out everything and found there is no leak and indicated that if the 50 gallon tank leaks, the garage would be wet but it wasn’t wet. He seemed to be confident and experienced and mentioned that he has 18-20 years of experience as plumber. He commented that the corrosion on the tank was normal and not a sign of leak. After he left the water was hot and everything was fine. If there was a leak, it is my understanding that we would not have had hot water... Read More

Choice Home Warranty failed to deliver timely, responsive service to my claim. Their representatives were always pleasant and apologetic but never helpful. Forward movement, and we hope resolution, was only achieved by constant, frequent phone calls over the almost 3 weeks of dealing with Choice and finally by threatening to submit a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

Your response to a claim was awful!!!!!!Your first reaction was you would not honor my claim ,because I had not kept my AC in maintenance. After a debate your persons response was we will give you a $100.I said NO and sent the contract and maintenance records in and you agreed to $320 even though my charge was $834.I bought a 6 year contract but I am not pleased at all with your service or response.Claim # 67200439

The two times that Mark came by (the appliance repair technician), first to check what was wrong, and today to bring the needed part and fix our dryer, he was very knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly... the part needed to be ordered and even though it took longer than what we expected, we didn't mind, because he called us and reassured us that he was going to be able to fix it... Mark was awesome and very customer service oriented... thanks for sending him to fix our dryer, and hope that every time that we need repairs in the future, can get someone like him!!! :)

As Anthony went over the plan. He was through and well versed in what I would get with my plan. I now have piece of mind that all things in my house is protected. Plus the price is great!

None of this turns out to be true. I bought the home warranty 10 months ago after purchasing a home with a thorough home inspection. No maintenance issues were found on inspection, but the appliances were older. On Wednesday my AC stopped cooling. I had to wait until late today(2 days later) for their tech to come out. I called to find out next step and was told they were denying the claim due to lack of maintenance. The AC system is 15 years old and I have another opinion that the unit lived its useful life. Choice’s own warranty document says that systems start to fail after 13 years. CHOICE is a very bad choice. Don’t waste your money!

We have a kitchen sink that leaks a main water line valve that leaks and a shower that the water trickels out of and nothing was covered. A stopped up sink was all that they covered. Not worth the money.
