Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

CHW was quick with most recent claim, but the contracted repair individual, while courteous, presented more problems than solutions. Will wait until the parts ordered are installed, but when repairman left to order parts we had more problems with furnace than we started with, but will allow him to finish before calling CHW, If parts work all will be fine, but almost had to go without heat in 20 degree F weather because of a motor wired incorrectly.

Technician called to confirm appointment and showed ip within the time-frame of the "time-window" that had been established. Prior to entering my home, he put on shoe-covering to avoid tracking any "mess" into my home. Went straight to work. Determined in very short time the source /cause of my problem (washer during fill-up not cutting off & as a result, flooding part of my home) and corrected the problem (switch had not been properly set to requested water-level). After confirmation of his assessment, proceded to check out the washer (balance, placement on frame, etc, etc.) He worked efficiently and explained to me what he was doing. Timely response. Courteous and honest. Did not say I needed all the parts to fix my AC another repairman had said I needed. Service person said he just bent the fan back to original shape, did NOT need to replace! Saved us all a lot of money!

So far everything has been great. The process for getting a claim and service seems to be fairly straight forward. Have not run into any issues. CHW technician - Silver Springs Heating and Cooling are very professional and prompt.

Water Heater went kaput. Couldn't be fixed because parts are no longer available. Choice Warrenty reimbursed me for service call to install new water heater in the amount of $278. Very pleased.

As always, the quality of customer service from Choice is very good. The problem is the quality of your Service Contractors. It is hit and miss you should do some social media review of them Yelp is a great source.
