Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

The response time was immediately, very pleased with CHW. File my claims online got a call from the technician right away. The appointments where set up for the next day .

Upon filing a claim, it took 4 days to get a technician, 2 days to settle. My over the range microwave was deemed cheaper to replace than to repair. My settlement was $169.99. Cost to replace was $209 for the microwave, $109 for installation and $65 for the service call. At the time of the sale of the program, I was told I would only pay $65 whether it was a repair or a replacement. I'm out of pocket $220. If I had known, I would have not filed a claim, gone out a purchase a new microwave and immediately installed it myself rather than be without for 6 days. I will not renew with this company or any other without total replacement cost.

I have had a contract with CHW for some time now. Every covered problem I have filed a claim for has been handled quickly, professionally and fairly. Maximum time for any repair was two days. My home is 33 yrs old and CHW takes care of it. Great service and no BS. I am a senior citizen and CHW takes the financial worry away. Thank you for your great service!

I FELT LET DOWN BY CHOICE HOME WARRANTY... WHEN I JOINED THEM I WAS HAPPY THINKING THAT I WOULD RECEIVE QUALITY HOME PROTECTION FOR MY CONDO IT'S APPLIENCES AND OTHER THINGS. WHEN MY WASHING MACHINE BROKE. AND IT TOOK DAYS & DAYS TO GET RESOLUTIONS AND EVEN THEN HAVING TO WIND UP CONTACTING AN APPLIANCE STORE TO PURCHASE A NEW WASHING MACHINE WAS NEVER WHAT I THOUGHT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. PLUS THE VERY LITTLE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT CHOICE IS GOING TO SEND ME IS DISAPPOINTING. I TRULY WOULD LOVE TO RECEIVE A REFUND OF THE MONEY I PAID FOR THE PROTECTION I'M NOT RECEIVING. I FEEL CHEATED, ROBBED, AND DISAPPOINTED!!!

I’m more tha a little irritated that as soon as I signed up and paid for the first month an email hit my in box with an offer of a lower payment and only $60 service fee instead of $75. That’s quite a sneaky little bait and switch right there. The other thing I’m not happy about is that you do t get to see your contract until you are already signed up and paid for. I’m feeling like I just fell for a scam and I’m NOT pleased. I’ll be watching your every move from now on and I will NOT be recommending you to any other idiots like me.

I recoment 100% CHOICE HOME WARRANTY for your home. they very helpful; I don't wait on the phone for an 1 hr. for a customer service rep take care my call and the rate is greate. I swich from American Home Shield to them. I don't recommend AHS to no one; you wait for 1 hr and 45 minutes for Rep answer the phone and they rate is to high.
