Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

GREAT PROFESSIONAL RESULTS I had a/c issues inside and out. Called in and nice person took my information and issued a service ticket. Followed by an email just minutes later to confirm. It took longer than expected to find a company in my area but they keep me in the loop through email and phone messages on the progress. The technician called and scheduled appointment within a narrow window (way better than waiting all day) 11am-3pm. The technician asked a series of questions, assessed the unit, fixed it and left within 75 minutes. Very cool and pleased right now.

It seems like one of the better service companies, but read your contract first. My first dealing was plumbing problems. I called for service on a toilet leak. They could not find anyone in my area. North Palm Beach County Florida. I had to make calls to plumbers to contact Choice. Two called me back and said no. Finally I found one that agreed with their payment. I had to pay the serviceman first and wait for my repayment from Choice, which did come quickly. After that I had another plumbing problem. The work was very good but I had to spend 3 days without service and for me that meant without a kitchen sink. Also it would have been nice if everything was covered. I had to pay for 2 things that were not covered that were needed to be done

Claim was not assigned for 4 days, which is not in accordance with the agreement. Technician called 15 minutes before the end of their 4 hour window and said it could be another 5 hours. After reassigning the claim, the service was very good. This is my second claim. The company attempted to deny my claim because I did not follow the terms of the agreement. Ironic isn't it?

I was very disappointed in the amount offered to me to replace my microwave. I had to aggressively negotiate with my claim advisor - I was told when purchasing the warranty that if an appliance could not be repaired, it would be replaced with an equivalent appliance. When the microwave stopped working, I reread my contract - there were no limits specified for the microwave. If I had accepted the first offer, I would have been out of pocket several hundred dollars. The advisor told me that I would be reimbursed the wholesale price of a microwave - that is unfair as I can't purchase at wholesale prices.
