Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

CHW is very useful is you own a house. It saves you the trouble of trying to find a vendor to service your needs when something breaks. The down side is that you have to wait until your request can be assigned. Sometimes it takes a couple of days and as soon as it's assigned, you have to follow up with the company. If not, they may not show up. Also, like all companies, there is no guarantee that you will receive a knowledgeable technician or if the technician will even show at the time scheduled.

On the morning that the technician was to arrive, he called to *schedule* an appointment for 2 days later. I received an email and phone call confirming the appointment time from CHW, but it was not clear to the technician that the appointment had already been scheduled. Luckily, he was very accommodating and came out that same day. If he had not, I would have had to take a second day off of work.

I called Choice Home Warranty on Tuesday, they set me up for a appointment for Friday afternoon for 11:00am to 3:pm. I called that company and ask if I could get one sooner. He set me up for Wednesday afternoon from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. they came around 2:00 pm and completely checked out the system. Found out it was a circuit breaker that had tripped. All is fixed and running good.

My garbage disposal broke down. I submitted a claim on line and Choice Home Warranty responded by the next day. On the 3rd day a repairman was sent to my house. I had a scheduling window but I needed them to come at the latest time I was given so I called the company directly and they were very accomodating. It was overall a very good experience.

Regarding fixing an old clothes dryer with non-working heat element: the repair person took the dryer apart, replaced the heat element, put it back together and "Wala," it works! Very satisfied!!

Technician was excellent in communications, in workmanship, in knowledge, in timeliness to appointment and friendliness. Choice was poor in not reading my very specific words that June 4th could not work for appointment, and went ahead and assigned June 4th. Choice should give customers ability to specify no-good days or times. Technician was good in speaking to me and arranging June 5th that worked out very well.
