Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

When I called to report a problem with an appliance, the response was prompt and I received an email message about local service agency calling to set up an appointment for repair. Within a couple of days, the repair was done and the appliance is working as it should be. Thank you for the prompt service.

This is an amazing company. I used the services 2 times and each time I called and as soon as I hung up the phone, there is an email in my in box with the name and phone number of a company As to the date and time of my appointment. This is unheard of. I had a company prior to this one and it’s like pulling teeth to get an appointment for them to come fix the problem. I am very happy with Choice.

I will never buy home warranty again. Through my experience with Choice I learned that most companies like them are only covering worst case scenarios that aren't caused by you. If you read the warranty, failure in the appliance or unit must not be because of the failure to maintain the appliance or unit. Through Choice's experiences, any damage to appliance or unit that's a result of manufacture defect or improper usage will be written in fine print in the warranty. With all this said or done, most appliance or units without defect and properly maintained will last you longer than the warranty period they offer. Essentially what consumers like us are doing are giving away free money... Read More

Horrible experience. The authorization department will find any reason to deny your claim. My heating system is leaking CO2 which poses imminent danger to myself and my family. We can go to sleep and never wake up again. They have denied my claim to replace the furnace.

Completing the claim was easy and someone was scheduled to come the next day. Unfortunately the company didn’t show up and I had to reschedule and take off another day of work.

The young man from Alamo Air and Heat came at 1:35 and went to work right away and was finished in an hours time with our air conditioner working and we paid our trip fee of $45 and he left. He was very nice to work with and was very well versed in his knowledge of the problem. He changed the capasitor and that was the problem. Thanks again for such quick service.
