Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I've called about three time over the past two years, each time I'm treated as customer #1. There's been no problem getting a tech out to resolve my problem. I would give Choice a A+ rating.

I called on a Saturday that we had a plumbing problem. They advised to wait for a call from the plumber and gave me their name and number. Within ten minutes the plumber called and scheduled time to repair the problem. The repairman called a few times to say when they would arrive and there they were.Took great care with our basement carpeting.......a wonderful experience. Marilyn Grindley

Terrible local service vendors in northern New Jersey on its rolls. The dispatcher of service provider isn't helpful either, complaints of no response from selected provider often go unanswered. They misinterpret the legal terms of the contract and are in breach of this agreement by refusing to be responsible for a broken dishwasher which has two broken parts, falsely attributing the breaking of the second part as a secondary damage caused by the breakdown of the first part. Extremely unprofessional behavior.

This Company has been fined, by the Court in New Jersey, a quarter million dollars. They are really due no stars above. You'd better see the write up on BBB's site before you get involved.

I had surgery 1/12. Up to that point, I had hot water, but when I tried to wash up in the sink 1/16, the water was cold. They sent a technician the next day. He drove up in a car, told me I had a bad pressure release valve, asked where was the nearest hardware store, left to get the part, returned after a long while, put the part in and left. My aide came on 1/20 to help me with a shower. We let the water run and run and it never got hot. I called the CHW office and reported it. They said they would put in a work order but that it would probably be Monday before anyone would act on it. It is now Tuesday 1/24. Today, I was told that the contractor didn't get the work order until late... Read More

From all providers we worked with for repairs, all said Choice is the worst warranty company they've worked with. They are notorious for denying claims. Carefully read through the contract for inclusions and exclusion - but unfortunately, the average home owner would not understand some caveats... for example, in regard to plumbing coverages: replacement of valves for shower/tub included, however the cartridge (which is a part of the valve) is NOT covered. In regard to the dishwasher. They decide it ultimately cost more than a replacement to fix it so opted to send us a check. Their replacement cost did not take into account width or height of our unit. They looked at builder's... Read More

I had a plumbing problem that was not covered under the warranty and they help cover part of the cost even though they did not have to.
