Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Worst Company I ever dealt with. 2 Claims one for a washer that died and they paid out 250 bucks when their plumber told them it needed to be replaced (replacement cost was 550) Then hot water heater was leaking. They screwed around with a plumber for a week all the while my family and I did not have hot water (this was in winter) then after a week told me they do not cover leaking hot water heaters!!! Never use these people

Our well pump went out; we were without water and had company coming.! My husband did all he was able to do without special equipment. I called Choice and put in the claim. They had a contractor call us right away but the contractor couldn't get to us for two more days. .. Neighbors recommended a company who gave top priority to people without water so we called them. Choice had us call for an authorization which the company did, and that company came out EARLY the next morning and had it replaced by 11 a.m. BLESS THEM and CHOICe! CHOICE HAS AGREED TO HONOR THEIR CONTRACT AND ARE GOING TO REIMBURSE US $500 OF THE TOTAL BILL AS STATED IN THE CONTRACT FOR CUSTOMERS WHO CHOOSE THEIR... Read More

I went with them after having american home shield. The pricing sounded great... Don't be fooled. When my a/c went out, they decided to give me $250 ( which i've never collected by the way) for a $4000 replacement 1.5 ton a/c unit. They sent out a company that stayed on hold with them for 2 hours and gave up. That company wouldn't even come back to my home. They they sent out another company whose tech had his license 2 for 2 weeks and he never opened up the unit. He told them a lie and they believed it.. When i wanted someone else to come out, they refused and told me that i had to pay for my own tech to come out.. I did and the guy ( whom i trust) siad the unit was trashed and the... Read More

I had an AC breakdown at my home. Within 24 hours, a repair person was at my home to make the repair. I was very pleased (since I live in Texas) with the quick service response. Unfortunately, within 12 hours it was not working again and this was Friday night at 10PM. We made the mistake of calling the repair tech instead of calling CHW directly. After multiple texts and phone calls, we did not hear back from the repair tech until Monday morning. He came and said that another part had broken and we would have to call CHW to file another claim. We called CHW to let them know that the AC was not repaired fully on the first visit and we needed another visit to fix it since it was still... Read More
