applied for medicare supplement plan g quoted $ 156.00 month, united said I was approved, then a few days later, I received notice I was approved for tier 2. When I called, I waited 45 minutes for united to call back. When United finally did call they said my rate was $477.00 a month! If I could I would take back my membership with AARP. AVOID THIS INSURANCE COMPANY!

I received a supplemental bill today from AARP Medicare Advantage UHC for $42.00 for January 2024. I have made no changes to my plan for 2024 and did not have this supplemental bill in 2023 . . .?? I was told by an advocate in the "Escalation" dept. that the UHC Plan 1 (PPO) had been discontinued and was replaced with AARP Medicare Aadvantage UHC PPO. Identical plan, but with a new name and a $42.00 supplemental bill (per month) in addition to the normal 3 or 4% increase thru Social Security. WTF? How do you justify a 25% increase.
We received the letter from UnitedHealthcare. It is announced that the rate for our AARP UHC Supplemental Insurance plan N will increase 12.4% for the year 2024. The inflation rate in June was 3%, in July 2023 3.3%. How can the medical insurance get the rate increase 4 times higher than the inflation rate? Who profits from such a business decision? Who cares about retirees with a fixed income?
What does AARP do to protect American retired persons from greedy insurers? Or the AARP activity is advertisement only?

I just returned from the pharmacy where I was told that my insulin glargine would be $569.00 for an 86 day supply. This does include my deductible, so future purchases would go down. The amlodipine normally costing about $20 was $44 once again still working on my deductible. I have often wondered how a person who wants to purchase something from a vendor who wants to sell goods or services is at the mercy of a third party who contributes nothing that would not exist in a true free enterprise system. Looking into Medicare supplemental policies, Namely Plan G or Plan N, AARP /United Health looked promising at a savings of about $6 per month over the next best that I found. However was fortunate to learn of a bait-and-switch prior to signing up. AARP premium rates the first year are quoted at a 36% discount. This discount is scheduled to go down 3% each year. So certainly, by the third year I would have been paying more than what I would pay from the other insurance carrier, with increases (via less discount) each year. I had United Health Care for this year. They are the worst insurance I have ever had. If Medicare doesn't pay the whole bill they don't pay anything. My husband and I paid over $3,000 a year for insurance Plan G which was supposed to bale the best. We were supposed to just get to $213 and then they would pay. My husband went for his yearly checkup and had blood tests done. We get a $455 bill from Quest. They wouldn't pay the bill because they said they weren't necessary tests. Hello the doctor decides what is necessary. I went to a different lab and all my tests were covered. Who is AARP United Health Care to decide if something is necessary? They just don't want to pay... They raised finasteride to tier 3 with no warning. Price jumped to over $100. My urologist says that finasteride is generic costing $1 a pill. Long phone call with Walgreens and AARP. The upshot is they can do whatever they want whenever they want for any or no reason. Walgreens said it's the insurance company that determines the tier. "Medicare prescription drug plans typically list finasteride on Tier 1 of their formulary." according to Good RX. I was prescribed nabumetone pain killers for pinched nerve. Singed up for Plan G, every office i gave my card number to tells me it will not go thru, it keeps coming up as Ameria Health of something as my payee rather than United Health Care. FIRST 2 claims phone calls no explanation. . Rating to date...i seem to have to choose at least one star
Hard company to deal with over the phone. Changing your address or trying to pay a bill takes about six phone calls with many times getting cut off without a call back. Yesterday I spent almost two hours just trying to pay my bill. I had a credit card on file but it wasn’t used for reasons no one could explain. Wow, exhausting!
I somehow got enrolled in both a Part G and Part C plan (PPO) by mistake. I have had 4 one-hour plus calls to get it solved with no results. The Part G part of United Health Care does not communicate with the Part C division of the company and getting them to coordinate is a nightmare. After 4 hour long calls I have yet to get this solved. The part G folks at least answer their phone. The part C folks have lousy phone lines, are impossible to understand and keep transferring you around (4times last call). They keep sending me bills that don’t say what they are for or what period they cover (my premiums are actually deducted from my social security so I should have no bills at all).
Calling customer service is a nightmare, they don't speak english very well at all and takes 10-25 min. to answer one question!!
This is one of the worst companies that I have ever worked with. Your customer service is more like NO SERVICE. I have been working on getting my prescription changed for over 10 days now. The first person I spoke with submitted the wrong information to my Dr. That took several hours of waiting on hold and calling back. Along with going to the pharmacy only to pickup the wrong prescription. I have called back the customer service phone number on my card again to try and correct this but all I get is a bunch of prompts and than put on hold. I've been on hold for an hour and a half trying to reach someone, anyone. What good is this insurance if you can't reach anyone.
I have been trying to get supplement (G) since Jan. You customer service is the pits. I’ve spoken with AARP, United Healthcare, United Underwriting, MedCare? (Your third party collection service) my doctors offices, the third party reporting service for my doctors offices. In the meantime, I’ve cancelled doctors appts because I haven’t the money for the tests. Most like - when I get approved, I’ll no longer be able to afford. Who can pay 5 months premiums at one time. I was saving for premiums. Had to use for kidney stone surgery. You people do realize this is not just my health, but my life & even my ability to buy groceries? I have 1 star because Greg & Kim have tried to help.
My mother had been in rehab and I’d being discharged home due to some doctor from AARP united healthcare that has never seen my mother in person. They stated that she was as good as she was ever going to be even though daily she is making progress in the skilled nursing facility that she is in. She is still not able to take care of herself and still has up to 100 days of rehab that is allowed by her plan but since this doctor in a cubical somewhere thinks she will never get any stronger he is allowing her to be given up on. AARP and Medicare? Don't bother. They have a Medicare Supplemental program from United Healthcare, high deductible Plan F, that costs three at least three times as much as the same plan from Humana or Blue Cross. I think the entire AARP thing is a big scam. I'm getting rid of their Medicare Advantage plan because although it has no monthly premium, the annual out of pocket expense is more than paying the premium for a Medicare supplement program AND Part D Medicare AND the out of pocket expense from another company. I was told by United Healthcare that my Medicare Advantage program from AARP had nationwide coverage. It doesn't.
toooo expensive!!! Copays are $35.00 for each referral. Moreover, they changed my plan to a to a HMO. I went to Walmart to get glasses and they said my insurance was cancelled. I called in to find out why and they said I had been moved to a HMO/Spectra Eyecare program and then a plan called PMG Optimum Care. I was told on the phone to go get my glasses at America's best - which round trip is 20 miles from my home. America's best was told, as well, that my insurance was cancelled. I spoke with ursula at AARP and she said she was going to get the matter straightened out. I have done the same with them and not paying monthly premium resulted canceling my insurance with them.
Just to let everone know that if your insurance is canceled and the number of month you have no coverage will result a panelty, which you will pay the rest of your life even though you get coverage from another company.
So lesson learned. only change insurance during open enrollment period.

I have (had) AARP/United RX coverage. The cost of the premium was no longer acceptable after I began using Good RX for my prescriptions, which was always at least 25% less expensive than the cost with the insurance, if not even 50% less in most cases. So I contacted AARP/United to dis-enroll. I was told I could NOT voluntarily dis-enroll unless I met one of their "criteria" for doing so. (i.e.: moved, deceased, etc.) After an extended conversation with an agent who kept reading the criteria over and over, I finally got her to admit that If I simply stopped paying, they would dis-enroll me. My husband and I have tried several times to apply to the supplemental insurance program and cannot get anyone there to help us follow through with our application. First they lost our application and then they could not print it to send it to us for signature. So we had to re apply. We received in the mail a letter stating us to sign the application right away, but forgot to put the application in it! When I call to get basic information they always need to speak to my husband. Why? Just waned to know if the application was mailed correctly!!!
Can't get an straight answer from anyone! Very incompetent organization! Have no choice but to choose another company.
