NGL's long-term insurance policy is called EssentialLTC. There are two available plan options to choose from based on the facility coverage needs of each individual. Their Facility Care Services Only policy covers services within assisted living facilities and nursing facilities.

Their comprehensive Long Term Care Insurance policy covers all facility care services, as well as in-home and community care services that the policyholder requires. This policy includes an emergency system benefit, under which the insured receives a reimbursement of up to $50 per month for the installation of residential communication systems for emergencies.

Both policies include built-in features such as international benefits, care coordination benefits, respire care benefits, and more. Couples who are interested in either policy can enjoy a joint policy and premium with the EssentialLTC joint pricing structure.

As defined in NGL's policy requirements, a person is eligible to receive long-term care insurance when they are chronically ill—which impairs their ability to perform at least two activities of daily living without assistance— or when they're diagnosed with a severe cognitive impairment that renders them unable to protect themselves or others from threats.

The maximum daily benefit amount provided by the policy ranges between $50 and $300, except in Vermont ($80) and Wisconsin ($60). For the initial benefit period, you can choose between between 2 and 3 years. After that, it can be extended to either 4, 5 or 6 years or a Lifetime period with the Benefit Period Extension Rider. The elimination period choices are between 30, 90, or 180 days except in the case of Vermont, where its 90 days.

NGL's financial strength ratings can be found under the name National Guardian Life Insurance Company. It currently has an AM Best rating of Excellent. The company has yet to be rated by Standard and Poor's, as well as Moody's.

The National Guardian Life Insurance Company has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 2017 and currently holds a BBB rating of A+. Most customer reviews are negative, which earned them a customer review rating of 1.06 out of 5. The company has closed 93 complaints in the last 3 years.
