Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.5 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

For over a month I have been having problems with my water lines leaking. Multiple Plumbers agree pipes need replacing but First American is delaying/denying paying the claim. Offered me $40.00 when total cost is $3300.00 for the repair. The pipes continue to leak causing more damage to my home every day....I think this is their tactic, wait you out until you finally break down and fix the covered repairs yourself. They have been really good about accepting my money the last 15 years that I have been a customer

Warranty Care of First American Home Warranties
Hi Zulfi. According to our records, you placed a claim on December 19, 2022, for a plumbing leak, the toilet running, and a plumbing stoppage. We dispatched independent contractor, The Property Doctor Incorporated, who reported the toilet running due to a failed toilet flapper and multiple leaks in the galvanized plumbing pipes in the basement. The contractor replaced the toilet flapper while onsite completing the toilet repair and recommended replacing the plumbing water supply line. On January 30, 2023, you requested a second opinion contractor be dispatched to confirm the diagnosis although we did not have a contractor available. Therefore, you provided your own contractor’s estimate for the plumbing repairs and a cash payment in lieu of the plumbing pipe replacement was processed based on your contractor’s repair estimate, in the amount of $2,200.00. Should you require additional assistance, please let us know.

Just spend the last 26 days fighting to get a water heater replaced that was installed incorrectly by a First American contractor last year. After 5+ hours on hold, over a dozen phone calls, 7 contractors, we are switching to a different home warranty. I cannot imagine there are worse companies out there.

FAHW SUCKS. Stay away from them. I have a Samsung washer that was leaking towards the front of the washer. The first company eagle eye HVAC LLC that had 107 total reviews with 105 1.5 star complaints about poor or no service wasn't available to service washer for 3 weeks. I complained about companies and reviews and was turned over to Sears Appliance for service that wouldn't be able to come out for 2 weeks. I called my own contractor came out in 2 days and diagnosed and fixed the problem. If you want to spend hours on the phone, have their customer service people lie to you, promise to call you back, THEN FAHW IS FOR YOU!!! STAY FAR AWAY FROM FAHW!!! I will try to get my $85 service back... Read More

My heater went out at my home. First American sent me out a provider that had absolutely terrible reviews This is an insult to me as a customer. Obviously First American does not VET providers. I called them and told them they should be insulted to send a company out that has such deplorable work reviews. I am dropping my coverage with First American Warranty. They are NOT a reputable company.

I am a customer of over 20 years and due to missed diagnosed problem my claim denied. I have provided supporting, with documentation, and several phone calls for resolution. They all provide canned responses without addressing the problem. This is very unfair business practices. It appears that First American looks for ways to deny claims. I wish to have this issue addressed and First American take responsibility for mistakes. Wo 617842847

I don’t understand why you won’t honor your contract the way it is written. It clearly states that you cover the repair needed and the contractor you sent lied twice about what was needed in order to over charge me and benefit your company, but it should still be covered according to the wording in my contract. My paper copy does not contain the new wording shown on the website. I also don’t know why you told me I can’t submit a quote from another contractor, when my contract says I can. You shouldn’t be telling me that you won’t be approving the work to be done by anyone else when you haven’t seen the write up yet. You can’t cover the cost of the coil and the labor and not the straps,... Read More

My 71 year old disabled vet Father in law has been with a working toilet and shower for 6 days. The plumber that came out 4 days after filing a claim could not fix it and submitted a report to FAHW asking for approval on different equipment to be used. It has been 2 more days and still no answer from FAHW. I have called several times, put on long hold times and disconnected when I requested to speak to a manger. This is beyond unacceptable

Unfortunately I am really not happy to give this rating, but after what I have experienced the last 3 months. Since May I have tried to have my air condition repaired and have got nothing but the run around. When I ask to speak to a manager, their is NEVER one available. Also, the contractor (COOL FACTORY) that FAHW is absolutely the worst . 😤

This company has failed to stand by their contract. I filed a claim for a leaking sewage line. The contractor they sent spent 8 mins and never provided a report to me or AHW. My claim was escalated to an emergency situation but never followed up with a contractor, or with me. A supervisor supposedly call contractor to get the report so they could get approval for the repair. That never happened even though I informed them there was sewage flowing under my house. They never offered to get another contractor out and only offered to pay $275. to a outside contractor. They failed to fulfil they part of the contract but told me that i did my follow the contract because I got an outside... Read More

I had two accounts with them because my property manager liked them. I'm still current with my rental property until this contract expires. To be clear I have the PREMIER plan and the extra $100 to cover the AC. For my rental property they have fixed things like dryer element going out and a leaky faucet, but for $522 a year and $85 a call that didn't save me any money. For my property in South Florida, my AC went out end of July. They let me go 13 days with no AC in this horrid sweaty heat. I had a friend who was able to put a booster on my unit to get me some relief once I decided to not use First American at all and buy a new AC. This is how it went down... First they made an...
