Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage. While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances. In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions. Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 4.5 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry. The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing. For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

They ask Drainco Plumbing Inc to come to my apartment to check my garbage disposal since the water came back up when the garbage disposal was used. Drainco Plumber said this is not the local issue, this is the issue that came from other apartments unit. So I reported to the building manager and the manager organized with other units to clean the shared plumbing. When the other plumber came to the apartment, they found out that actually the P-trap under my sink is dirty, so this is the local issue, not shared plumbing issue. Therefore, the manager said I should pay for their plumber to clean the P-trap. I called the First American HW and asked if I can get reimbursement, they said no since... Read More

First American Home Warranty is basically a SCAM for the following reasons: 1. They dispatch INCOMPETENT, UNLICENSED, UNINSURED AND UNBONDED (No Workers Compensation) contractors and subcontractors for their repairs. Those contractors often don't fix things correctly, or cause further damage to appliances and fixtures. Or, they make up stories so that FA will deny your claim. 2. They delay repairs for as long as possible until you give up and handle the repair at your own cost. They make it difficult to get critical appliances fixed within a timely manner. 3. Their employees/representatives lie and their only goal is to deflect any/all responsibility for First American 4. They... Read More

Trade Item Plumbing Property Address 2402 Alto Cerro Cir Claim Number 314000333 In September 2024, Our Main Toilet = OVE Smart Toilet (purchased from Costco in 2020) - Stopped Working and would NOT Flush. Per FAHW; This unit was covered under our Contract! (claim # 314000333). You sent a low priced plumber, who said he doesn't repair smart toilets. As such, First American HS said "fix it yourself" and we authorize a $265 credit!! We contacted OVE, and we needed to order 2 separate parts: A new Cellinoid (receipt below) - for Canadian $ 131.300 = $ 153.26 US Dollars But, is did NOT fully fix and still no Flush. I submitted a claim to First American Home Warranty on a Monday for my garage door malfunction. The mechanical function capacity restricted the ability to open/close the garage door. With our car inside, this was an issue getting to work and such. FAHW agreed to have a contractor contact me within 24-48 hours. This was not done, as no contractor contacted me. After 48 hours and numerous calls to FAHW, and no contractor contact I had to seek a repair provider to address the issue. FAHW told me a service provider would be available on the Friday and I would get a call to confirm. That never materialized, no contractor called. I had to find a readily available contractor, and requested FAHW... Read More

Air conditioner inoperative. It is 90 degrees in house. Waiting for repair or replacement for a week now. Have called them over 20 times with NO RESOLUTION. have been bounced from representative to representative most of whom can barely speak English. Each representative had a different story. The company they contacted to service this took 3 days to show up and doesn’t return calls. In meantime I consulted another a/c company for a second opinion and found that the compressor that Complete Air Mechanical of Central Florida insists can be replaced or repaired CANNOT be repaired or replaced that parts NO LONGER EXIST. Oh and by the way this claim SUPPOSEDLY has an emergency tag on it.... Read More

I have been with first American home warranty for three years. I initiated a claim. on 9/15/24 Told them that they left side cable on the garage door had broken. and that my garage door was at about a 22 degree angle and about a third of the way open They opened the claim and had a contractor get in touch with me the .next day and told me that they would not be able to come out to repair the garage door until Friday 9/20/24. I called first American home warranty back and told them that this was totally unacceptable for me to have to wait until Friday. because my garage door was in the open position and this was leaving my house totally unsecured. They told me that they would get back with... Read More

Awful service. Been without AC for ALL of July and August. No help from “customer service” and no resolution in sight. Was just told by a customer service rep “I cannot help you, and I do not know why. Maybe you should call back tomorrow morning.”

I've had First American Home warranty to cover my appliances breakdowns and it came time to use it. I submitted a claim for my washer that was leaking water. The tech came out but I didn't get a response after a few days so I called in to find the claim was denied because they don't cover a soap dispenser! Now how does a $ 20 soap dispenser affect a leaking washer? I went back and forth with them and now I'm out of a washer going on 2 weeks. I have kiddos in sports so I needed a washer. This company didnt honor their warranty and i canceled their product and bought a new washer. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND DENY YOUR CLAIM!!

I wish I could give a negative star. The service has been pathetic.. Its been 2 months since the service request for repairing a dishwasher has been put in. They have hired an incompetent contractor who has visited 5 times( half of the time with wrong parts) and has finally admitted that machine can not be repaired. First American has done nothing till now to resolve the issue and is still giving standard excuses for not able to do anything!!!! This is absolutely appalling and I would recommend everyone to stay away from these crooks.

First American Home Warranty, like their many competitors, is a scam company. These home warranties are legally mandated to be purchased by all the home sellers for the new home buyers. This is another indication that our legislators work for these companies. I sold a home in Houston and was forced to buy one for the new owner. Then, I bought a home in California and the seller had to buy one for me. I knew the reputation of these companies but we had no choice. Couple of months after I moved in to my CA home, I realized that my upper oven was not cooking/baking evenly. Proof was in the pastries or pies that I baked in the upper oven came out with the back side baked while the front... Read More

I was introduced to FAHW when I purchased my first home, I continued the service because I thought it was beneficial to help save if something breaks at my home (I’m not handy at all). Up until now I have been ok with the service except when it came to my HVAC system. I have complained about the HVAC at least two to three times before however because I did not know any better when contractors came and said it was fine I took their word. During those times I did not know I could call back in two weeks if the issue was not resolved. Fast forward to May 21, 2024 summer came a little early and we started to need the AC. I called because the house was not cooling down. A contractor (master... Read More

1.6 rating on BBB. lie to deny the claims - Rundown on my claim today: I pay $90 per month. Pool Salt Cell died, entered request so that I can have it replaced (which is why I have your warranty!!) Pool company comes out, confirms its non functioning and needs to be replaced. Suggests when it is replaced to run at 100% (never had to before - that's merely pool techs preference). The end. Until your rep writes that claim is denied because I set it to 60% instead of 100% - Let me ask you: If your AC is set to 78 degrees instead of 76 degrees and it breaks, would that be because you had it set to 78 ? does that make any sense at all??? & that I use harsh dangerous chemicals but... First American is not honoring their own warranty contract to repair/replace my house AC that broke a month ago on 5/11. They sent an incompetent contractor to my house who did not completely diagnose the issue. Then this contractor called and tried to sell me a replacement AC, telling me the warranty company would only pay a small percentage portion of the replacement costs and not anything more. Since then I have paid out of pocket for 3 additional HVAC companies to diagnose the issue. I have provided First American with this information in an attempt to get them to understand their contractor did an incomplete job and was dishonest with me. I have been told many times by First American... Read More

This has been the worst experience. Unable to get an answer as to why they are not having the company they assigned to fix a built in oven/stove and microwave. We were told it was fixable and needed parts. The stove when you turn burner on all burners get hot. When you call to speak to someone you can not understand them and they are flippant. Waited 17 minutes to speak to a supervisor or someone who was understandable. We have been waiting for an answer/parts since May 24th. Oh and the counter gets hot when you use the oven/ stove. Do not use this company. What’s even better our contract expired 3 days ago and a salesperson named Gina wanted to renew the contract at almost double... Read More

Please do yourself a favor and look somewhere else. There was a leak in our ceiling which I reported to FA. Their contractor cut a hole in our ceiling without reinforcing it, which FA was supposed to repair. We made several attempts for the repairs. We were told that someone would be sent to fix the damage. They never send anyone. We got the repairs fixed and sent proof of payments. We have been calling for months now to get reimbursement for the damages. The person assigned to the case has refused to respond to both calls and emails. We have gotten no assistance and FA is refusing to provide any further assistance or information. We have been dealing with this issue since 10/2023. Look... Read More

I am a new homeowner and I love First American. Yes, every company has its issues and bumps along the road, so they appreciate the customer's and the technicians' feedback to work through these issues. The first year in my home, my HVAC went out and needed to be replaced. This warranty company helped me from being scammed by one of their vendors. I submitted a claim for a possible leak on the roof. The estimate was questionable, and the tech attempted to deduct a fee out of the allowable cash-out. The HVAC was programmed incorrectly and we were without heat for a few weeks and had to get portable heaters, they reimbursed me for the portable heaters. The home warranty is WORTH IT! The... Terrible company. We have trying to get our refrigerator fixed since 12/25/23. As of today 5/10/24 it is still not fixed. They contract with cheap companies to save money and these people have no idea what they are doing. They also sent out multiple technicians who would not even touch it because they are not LG certified so we are left waiting and our time has been wasted. The first contractor they sent messed up our refrigerator so bad that it is not fixable but they still keep sending people out who just change parts over and over again but it is still not fixed. Our refrigerator should have been replaced by now but they just keep sending out more technicians to try and fix it and... Read More

I've waited 6 days for my hot water tank replacement and still have to wait for the warranty company to buy the tank then recontact the contractor to have it installed. I'm still waiting rather than they have a contractor fix it and reimburse them. A customer for 2.5 years only because they cover pools that I'm still here so sorry.!

AD Military customer for 3+ years since returning from overseas. Customer service has always been great; not difficult to contact and they are always pleasant and professional. Wait times on the other hand have been far from ideal. Some examples include: • 7 month wait for a simple HVAC repair (common part replacement) •• Wait time fault mostly on FAHWs assigned contractor (not sure how well they vetted the contractor given the awful reviews on many sites) however nothing tangible was accomplished through frequent communication with both parties during the process • cash-out request delayed nearly 3 weeks (typically 3 business days) • (current/unresolved issue) Hot Water Tank... One out of three service requests were actually performed. The first one was a garbage disposal incident and went off without a hitch. It was great. The second one was a dryer issue. The service personnel called me at the end of the appointment window to exclaim he was going to be an hour late. I've already pushed my plans back for the service but then the service being late officially ruined my night. However, he didn't even show up an hour later. But the extreme kicker is that the service personnel marked my service request as "needing to get new parts". I had to spend several hours on the phone with First American Home Warranty to explain to them that the service personnel never... Read More

I am an Assistant Property Manager and we used to have all the properties we manage with First American Home Warranty because it used to be a great company with great response and customer service. Unfortunately, this is no the case any more. The contractors they are using are anything but good or responsible, the excuses to deny any claim are ridiculous, there is no one that really care, no even when you have 10 properties with them and Good Luck to try cancelling a policy, it is just ridiculous. Home Warranties are a necessary evil, however, make yourself a favor and don't waste your time or money with this company.
