ABOUT THIS CARD

About half of all American credit card users carry a balance, and they can all use a break from interest charges. The US Bank Visa® Platinum card currently offers an industry leading 20 months of 0% APR financing on new purchases and balance transfers to give you a break from paying interest while you pay off your balance.

Otherwise, this is a relatively simple card that offers some valuable benefits, but no rewards such as cash back, or travel rewards points or miles. For example, it comes with a cell phone protection policy that covers damage or theft up to $600 with a $25 deductible, and is limited to two claims ($1,200) per 12 month period. You must pay your cell phone bill with the card every month to be elgible for this benefit. This card also offers you access to your VantageScore® credit score and Score Simulator through the TransUnion's CreditView™ Dashboard.

It also features a mobile app and is compatible with most mobile wallet services such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay. There’s no annual fee for this card, but there is a foreign transaction fee of 2% for transactions in US Dollars and 3% for all other foreign currencies.

4 things informed consumers need to know:
  1. Get enough credit cards to keep the balance on each one below 30% of its limit.
  2. Pay on time, use cards sparingly and keep your accounts open.
  3. Don’t apply for too many cards at once. Do 1 today, again in 6 months, etc.
  4. More cards mean a wider variety of points and benefits.
