ABOUT THIS CARD

Small business owners are able to earn valuable travel rewards by using the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Business card. You start off with 60,000 bonus points, worth about $900 in award travel, after spending just $3,000 in new purchases within three months of account opening. You also earn double points on Southwest purchases and one point per dollar spent elsewhere on all of your small business purchases.

All of these points count towards the 110,000 you need to earn in one calendar year to receive the Companion Pass. Once earned, you can use your pass to add a designated traveler, such as an employee or family member,  to all of your flights until the end of the following calendar year. All you pay is government taxes and fees for unlimited free companion travel.

You already get two free checked bags every time you fly on Southwest, but this card also protects them with baggage delay insurance and lost luggage reimbursement. When shopping you’re also covered by extended warranty coverage and purchase protection benefits. There’s a $99 annual fee for this card, and no foreign transaction fees. But you also receive 6,000 bonus points, worth about $90 in award travel, each year on your account anniversary.

4 things informed consumers need to know:
  1. Get enough credit cards to keep the balance on each one below 30% of its limit.
  2. Pay on time, use cards sparingly and keep your accounts open.
  3. Don’t apply for too many cards at once. Do 1 today, again in 6 months, etc.
  4. More cards mean a wider variety of points and benefits.
