ABOUT THIS CARD

This is a unique card in several ways. First, it’s a premium travel rewards card offering 3x points on all travel and commuter expenses, or 4X points on travel for Honors Advantage Members. You'll earn 1.5 points on all other purchases and enjoy travel benefits such as a $100 annual air travel credit and a $100 Global Entry or $85 TSA pre-check statement credit.

New cardholders can earn 50,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on the card within first 90 days of account opening. Points can be redeemed for a variety of rewards including gift cards and travel reservations. You also get 12 months of 0% APR financing on balance transfers. 0% APR promotional balance transfer rate for 12 Months on transfers made from now until March 31, 2022. After that, the APR for the unpaid balance and any new balance transfers will be 17.99% variable. A 3% balance transfer fee applies to each transfer and subject to credit approval. If you take advantage of this balance transfer, you will immediately be charged interest on all purchases made with your credit card unless you pay the entire account balance, including balance transfers, in full each month by the payment due date.

This card is available from the Pentagon Federal Credit Union, which is the second largest federal credit union. And although PenFed was created to serve members of the military and their families, there’s no military service required to become a member. Add up all of these unique features and you’re left with a card that makes sense for those who want the value of a premium rewards card, without the large corporate bank.

4 things informed consumers need to know:
  1. Get enough credit cards to keep the balance on each one below 30% of its limit.
  2. Pay on time, use cards sparingly and keep your accounts open.
  3. Don’t apply for too many cards at once. Do 1 today, again in 6 months, etc.
  4. More cards mean a wider variety of points and benefits.
