ABOUT THIS CARD

American Express and Delta offer several SkyMiles credit cards, but this one hits a sweet spot in their lineup that will appeal to regular Delta flyers. For a limited time only, new applicants can earn 60,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 within three months of account opening and a $100 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months. You'll also earn 3x miles on Delta purchases, and 2x miles at restaurants worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets.

This card also includes plenty of valuable benefits such as priority boarding and a first bag checked for free. Cardholders can enjoy up to a $100 statement credit for Global Entry or a statement credit up to $85 for TSA Pre✓®. Each year you’ll receive a Companion Certificate good for one domestic, round-trip ticket upon renewal of your card.

To help you reach the next level of elite status in Delta’s Medallion program, you can earn 10,000 MQMs after spending $25,000 in purchases, up to two times in a calendar year. Earn 25% More MQMs in 2021. Earn an additional 2,500 MQMs on top of the 10,000 MQMs you can already earn each time you spend $25,000 in purchases on your Platinum Card (for a total of 12,500 MQMs per purchase threshold), up to 2 times. MQMs are used to determine Medallion Status and are different from the miles you earn toward flights.

There’s a $250 annual fee for this card, and no foreign transaction fees.

4 things informed consumers need to know:
  1. Get enough credit cards to keep the balance on each one below 30% of its limit.
  2. Pay on time, use cards sparingly and keep your accounts open.
  3. Don’t apply for too many cards at once. Do 1 today, again in 6 months, etc.
  4. More cards mean a wider variety of points and benefits.
