ABOUT THIS CARD

There are few airline credit cards that have no annual fee, and most offer paltry benefits. But the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express card manages to offer you 2x miles at restaurants, including takeout and delivery. You'll also earn 2x miles Delta purchases made directly with Delta, and one mile per dollar spent elsewhere. Other benefits include 20% back on in-flight purchases such as food, beverages and audio headsets. Cardholders will also have the Pay With Miles option that offers up to $50 off the cost of your flight for every 5,000 miles you redeem with Pay with Miles when you book on Delta.com. And, unlike many no-fee cards today, the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express still offers Purchase Protection, Extended Warranty, and Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance.

Delta SkyMiles® can be valuable, depending on how you redeem them. The Delta SkyMiles® program frequently features award sales that can offer you flights for just a few thousand miles. Delta is also member of the Sky Team alliance, which allows you to earn and redeem miles on 18 other airlines around the world including Air France, KLM, Korean Air and AeroMexico.

Finally, this card offers new applicants 10,000 miles after spending $500 within three months of account opening.

4 things informed consumers need to know:
  1. Get enough credit cards to keep the balance on each one below 30% of its limit.
  2. Pay on time, use cards sparingly and keep your accounts open.
  3. Don’t apply for too many cards at once. Do 1 today, again in 6 months, etc.
  4. More cards mean a wider variety of points and benefits.
